Coffee & Conservation: Save The Manatee Club
June 16, 2026
Englewood Chamber of Commerce
Join us for June’s Coffee & Conservation as we welcome Dr. Beth Brady, a leading voice in manatee research, for a deeper look into how science is shaping the future of these iconic Florida species.
About the Speaker
Dr. Beth Brady holds a Ph.D. in marine biology and has dedicated her career to advancing our understanding of manatees. Her research focuses on manatee vocalizations, mother-calf communication, and the use of drone technology to assess manatee health in the wild.
Her work supports conservation efforts at both local and national levels, helping guide protections for manatees and the waterways they depend on. Dr. Brady has published extensively and collaborated with leading research organizations, bringing both scientific depth and real-world application to her work.
About the Presentation
Manatees face increasing challenges in Florida’s waterways, from habitat loss to human impact. Dr. Brady will share current research, what scientists are learning about manatee behavior and communication, and how this information is being used to improve conservation strategies.
You’ll gain insight into:
- How manatees communicate, including mother-calf interactions
- How drone technology is changing the way researchers monitor health in the wild
- The biggest threats currently facing manatees in Florida
- Practical ways individuals can help protect manatees on the water
About Save the Manatee Club
Save the Manatee Club, founded by Jimmy Buffett and former U.S. Senator Bob Graham, has been a leader in manatee conservation for over 40 years. The organization focuses on public awareness, habitat protection, responsible boating practices, and conservation policy.
Their Guardian Guide Program helps educate businesses and individuals on how to operate responsibly around manatees. Programs like this play an important role in protecting Florida’s waterways—and directly support how we operate here at SUP Englewood.
