Join SUP Englewood and Ashley Cook of the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center for a hands-on Vertical Oyster Garden workshop. This family-friendly program gives children and adults an opportunity to learn about our local waterways and take part in a meaningful conservation project.

Small shells. Big impact.

Vertical Oyster Gardens, also known as VOGs, are made by stringing recycled oyster shells together and suspending them in the water. The shells provide a place for young oysters and other marine organisms to grow.

As oyster communities develop, they help:

• Filter and improve water quality
• Create habitat for fish, crabs, shrimp, and other marine life
• Support healthier seagrass and estuarine ecosystems
• Strengthen local oyster populations

Ashley will explain how oysters support Charlotte Harbor and guide participants through the process of constructing Vertical Oyster Gardens.

No previous experience is needed. The presentation and hands-on activity can be enjoyed by children, families, and adults interested in learning more about our coastal environment.

• The workshop is free
• Advance registration is required
• Attendance is limited to 25 participants
• Coffee and light refreshments will be provided
• Workshop supplies will be provided
• Regular park admission applies: $3 per vehicle
• The program will take place outdoors

Please dress comfortably for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle are recommended.
